Super RTL is set to broaden its children’s entertainment portfolio in Germany by taking over Nickelodeon’s channel.
The agreement will see Super RTL acquiring Nickelodeon’s existing satellite frequency to launch a new linear children’s channel. This new channel will feature popular Nickelodeon series such as PAW Patrol and SpongeBob SquarePants.
Pending approval from the Federal Cartel Office, the Bundeskartellamt, this deal effectively means that Paramount Global-owned Nickelodeon Germany will become part of Super RTL.
The collaboration will bring both current and upcoming Nickelodeon series to Super RTL’s Toggo portfolio, enriching its offering.
Super RTL, based in Cologne and fully owned by RTL Deutschland since 2021, distributes content through its linear TV channels, digital apps, websites, and SVOD platforms.
The Toggo brand, aimed at children aged six to 13, encompasses a variety of series, games, and events, while Toggolino caters to preschoolers and toddlers.
Thorsten Braun, who served as CEO of Super RTL until the end of 2023 and is now RTL Deutschland’s Chief Marketing, Brand, and Consumer Products Officer, commented: “Expanding our partnership with Nickelodeon and Paramount allows Super RTL to offer its young audience an even broader selection of high-quality children’s programs.
Adopting the satellite frequency creates a valuable new touchpoint for the Toggo brand, reaching children aged three to 13. This aligns perfectly with our strategy of making the Toggo brand accessible across as many channels and platforms as possible.”
Michael Keidel, Vice President of Ad Sales, Affiliate & Streaming Partnerships in Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe at Paramount, added: “Through our strategic partnership with Super RTL, beloved Nickelodeon characters and stories will continue to have a prominent place on free-to-air TV in Germany.
This aligns perfectly with our strategy of engaging fans through numerous high-reach touchpoints, including our premium streaming service Paramount+, our free ad-supported streaming service Pluto TV, and our pay TV channels.”
